Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

PPA is pleased to offer Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy to help individuals overcome emotional and relationship problems. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that has been scientifically researched and found to be effective. In hundreds of research studies, CBT was validated as effective for many different disorders. It is one of the few therapies to have such substantial scientific research behind it.

In contrast to many other types of therapy, CBT is short-term, focused on the present, and problem-solving oriented. Clients learn specific skills that last a lifetime. CBT, as indicated in the name, involves cognitive and behavioral techniques that help clients change unhelpful distorted thinking and behaviors.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of therapy or counseling that understands the relationship between situations, thoughts, and emotions.  By examining patterns of thinking that lead to emotional and behavioral problems, clients can engage in using many tools and techniques that help change dysfunctional or self-defeating thinking. Compared to other forms of psychotherapy, CBT is more active and problem-solving oriented.  Important skills are cultivated and developed so that clients benefit for many years to come.

Scientific studies have demonstrated that CBT is effective for a number of emotional, relationship, and interpersonal problems such as depression, anxiety and panic, PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, personality disorders, substance abuse, eating disorders and other problems.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has been shown to be as effective as antidepressant medication for people with depression and has the advantage of doing more to prevent relapse of symptoms. Studies have also shown that individuals who receive CBT in addition to medication have better outcomes than those who do not receive CBT treatment. CBT techniques have been shown to produce results that are both quick and durable.

Our therapists and counselors at PPA are well trained in CBT and engage in ongoing training in CBT.
